Mozilla has announced plans to introduced a Metro-style version of its popular Firefox browser for Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 OS. The new browser will be based on the Gecko layout engine and will require “a new Firefox front end and system integration points.”
The company’s planning document reads:
“The feature goal here is a new Gecko-based browser built for and integrated with the Metro environment. Firefox on Metro, like all other Metro apps will be full screen, focused on touch interactions, and connected to the rest of the Metro environment through Windows 8 contracts.”
Other features planned include a live tile for displaying updates on the home screen and the new browser could be officially shown off during Q2 2012.
