How to: Reset the HTC One

HTC-One-Front-Edge

Every so often, you need to factory reset your smartphone, especially if you are a heavy user. Maybe your smartphone has switched off, won’t switch back or is stuck in boot mode? Here’s how to reset the HTC One:

Soft Reset

The soft reset is really easy on the HTC One. A soft reset is like removing the battery but as the HTC One battery can’t be accessed, how do you force it to switch off and back on again?

To Reset the HTC One, press and hold the POWER button for at least 10 seconds. HTC One will then restart.

Hard Reset (software – phone switched on):

Sometimes a soft reset won’t cure the problem so you need to go one step further and reset your phone to factory settings. If your phone is switched on and you’re able to access the settings menu, here’s how to reset the HTC One:

Factory reset will remove apps you’ve downloaded and installed, your accounts, as well as system and app data and settings. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset.

  1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap on the Settings icon.
  2. Tap Backup & reset.
  3. Tap Reset phone.
  4. If you also want to permanently delete media and other data on HTC One, select Erase all data.
  5. Tap OK.

Your HTC One will then restart – let it complete and your HTC One will be reset to factory settings.

However, if you’re not able to access on the settings menu (e.g. your phone is stuck in boot mode or the screen doesn’t work or the HTC One has frozen), then use the reset method below.

Hard Reset (button reset):

If you’re not able to access the Settings menu or your phone won’t boot up, you can use the hardware buttons to reset your HTC One. Here’s the hardware button reset for the HTC One:

  1. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and then press and hold the POWER button.
  2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
  3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button to confirm your choice.

Your HTC One will then restart – let it complete and your HTC One will be reset to factory settings.

My phone is stuck on the factory reset stage. It goes to the screen with the green arrows and phone under them then turns off and turns back on to the htc logo and back to the green arrows and keeps doing this. Need help please.
