Is your Galaxy S4 not working? Here’s how to hard reset your Galaxy S4:
If you’ve got a Galaxy S4 that isn’t working, there are several things you can do to try and bring it back to life. Maybe you’re selling the handset on and you want to make sure you’re data is completely removed from the Galaxy S4 before you sell it. If this happens, here’s how to hard reset the Samsung Galaxy S4 (this should work with both the i9500 and i9505 models and also the SGH-i337 for AT&T in the USA.)
Disclaimer: Factory reset will remove apps you’ve downloaded and installed, your accounts, as well as system and app data and settings. Be sure to back up any data and files you want to keep before you do a factory reset. Hard Reset (software – phone switched on):
Sometimes a soft reset won’t cure the problem so you need to go one step further and reset your phone to factory settings. If your phone is switched on and you’re able to access the settings menu, here’s how to reset the Galaxy S4:
- Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap on the Settings icon.
- Tap Backup & reset.
- Tap Reset phone.
- If you also want to permanently delete media and other data on HTC One, select Erase all data.
- Tap OK.
Your Galaxy S4 will then restart – let it complete and your HTC One will be reset to factory settings.
However, if you’re not able to access on the settings menu (e.g. your phone is stuck in boot mode or the screen doesn’t work or the Galaxy S4 has frozen), then use the reset method below.
Hard Reset (button reset):
Before proceeding, please make sure you switch off your phone – either remove and reinsert the battery or press and hold the power button and select power off on the screen.
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and HOME buttons and then press and hold the POWER button.
- Release the POWER button when your Galaxy S4 vibrates but STILL HOLD the HOME and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
- Wait for the screen with the green Android man to appear and then release the HOME and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
- Press VOLUME DOWN to scroll to WIPE DATA / FACTORY RESET and then press the POWER button to confirm your choice.
- Scroll down to Yes – delete all user data and press the POWER button to confirm your choice.
Your Galaxy S4 will then reset itself – once completed, it will and your Galaxy S4 will be reset to factory settings.
